The number of people having money docked from their wage or benefits to repay debts has increased five-fold in the past year. A thousand “attachment orders” a month are being issued, up from 200 a month a year ago, the Commerce Commission says in its Consumer Issues report for 2015. Released on Thursday, the report, places debt, and its impacts on vulnerable people, high among the commission’s priorities over the next year.
